Captain's Note 16 July

Relay 2012 is already history. What a great event has been! Hundreds of avatars meeting in one place to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer is so amazing. It is a great honour to be part of this very special group of great people.

It was also a very successful weekend for the team. Our campsite which was built and designed by Jennylynn Capalini and Manfred Hancroft, with help from Francesca Alva and Neill McCullough, won the Inventive Creative Fundraising Award 1st Place! Isn’t that amazing? I still can’t believe it. A big thank you to our build team, you are awesome!

The weekend was also successful in terms of fundraising, we added quite a bit to our total, which as of this writing stands at L$581,155 ($2,325). Please note that kiosks and vendors will continue to accept donations until the Wrap-Up Party in August so this is not the final number yet and we can continue to raise money.

Since this is my last Captain’s Note of the season, I would like to thank you all for your support for Relay For Life and for our team. It has been a great privilege to be your Team Captain.

I would also like to thank a few people who deserve extra credit for what they did for the team:

Eilidh & Neill McCullough for helping me run the team
Jennylynn Capalini & Manfred Hancroft for building our award-winning campsite
Aianna Feruvial for organising the Literature for Life and Music for Life events in Alurel
Butter for organising our Tiny events
Alana Pyara/Pieni/Peippo for oganising the Dance Under The Sea
Inish Karu & the Community of Ocean Realms for raising money on our behalf at their St. Patrick’s Day Festival
Wildstar Beaumont, Francesca Alva, Eden and Amberlyssa Marie Bauerhoff for their support for the team throughout the season.

Thank you so much! *Hugs*

Relay 2012 Info

Relay 2012 begins on 14 July at 10am SLT with the opening ceremony and ends on 15 July at noon.

AC RFL team will gather on 14 July 9:30am SLT for a short briefing at our campsite (see landmark below). We will then listen to the broadcast of the opening ceremony togheter at the campsite. (From experience, the event sims where the ceremonies are held tend to be packed with people. If you prefer to watch the opening ceremony, please feel free to attend in person.)

If you cannot make briefing and opening ceremony, you are welcome to join us at our campsite at any time.

A few words about the event itself: While you are welcome to just hang at our campsite, please remember we gather for Relay to walk laps in order to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. The idea is to have at least one team member on the track at all times.

Each lap, usually one hour, has a specific theme. Generally, it's not a requirement to be in theme. You are welcome to walk the track as you are. (Please note, the event is family friendly so please dress accordingly wether you are in theme or not.)

There are a few exceptions, however:

The Survivor/Caregiver Honour Walk from 11am to 12:30pm SLT is reserved for survivors and caregivers who have registered with the Survivors & Caregivers liasion. The rest of us stands by the track and cheer on the survivors and caregives as they walk by.

For the Team Spirit Lap - Teams R Us! from 12:30pm to 2:00pm I kindly ask you to wear our team t-shirt as we walk the track together. (Of course, you are welcome to wear the team t-shirt throughout the event.)

Our Team Campsite can be found here once the Relay sims open to the public on 14 July.

Captain's Note 2 July

We did it! We passed the L$500,000 ($2,000 US) mark this weekend which means we have reached the Platinum fundraising level! We had a very busy weekend with three events. First, I would like to thank the communities of Antiquity, Ocean Realms and Winterfell for their support for our team in the Swashbucklers For Life event. My second thank you goes to Manfred Hancroft for his wonderful Ray Bradbury reading. Last but not least, a big thank you to Aianna Feruvial for the Music For Life in Alurel. We had a great line up of some of SL’s best live performers. Naturally, Alurel was packed: at one point we had over 50 people in the sim! The event raised L$60,000 ($240 US), making it our biggest event of the season. At the same time, it was also our last event.

While the fundraising season has a come to a close for us, we are not done yet, of course. The most important event of the season, Relay Event Day, is still coming up (on 14 / 15 July).

As of 8am SLT on 2 July, our total stands at L$510,000 ($2,040 US).

Have a wonderful week & Go Relay!

Captain's Note 18 June

I would like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation for all the efforts by our Tinies. This Captain’s Note is a suitable moment to do so, for two reasons:

First, this past Saturday we had a fun and very refreshing beach party on Butter’s beach. I’m so happy to say that the event raised L$30,000 ($120 US)! A big thank you to Butter for this party and all the other events she organised for us.

Second, I’m very pleased to announce that our Tinies are sponsoring a sim for the relay event and that they decided that our team should be credited for the sponsorship.

As a result of the sim sponsorship and the beach party, our total has increased by almost L$100,000 since my last Captain’s Note two weeks ago! Our current total as of 1:04am on 18 June stands at L$432,500 ($1,730 US).

Have a great week and Go Relay!
